The Limbe Quarter 1 Integrated Waste-to-Wealth Pilot is a specialized environmental intervention designed to address the "Waste-Water Nexus" crisis in Mile 2, Limbe. The project operates under the MWEN Group and focuses on creating a sustainable circular model for household waste management.

Core Components & Methodology

Dual-Track Management: The project utilizes an integrated dual-track system to ensure 100% waste recovery for both organic and inorganic materials.

Organic Waste Stream (Bokashi & Vermicomposting): Participating households utilize airtight bins for Bokashi fermentation, an anaerobic process that processes food scraps into pre-compost. This material is then fed into a central community worm farm to produce high-value organic fertilizer.

Inorganic Waste Stream (Source Segregation): Homes are provided with color-coded bags to separate dry waste at the source, specifically targeting plastics and metals.

Recycling & Sale: Collected inorganic materials are cleaned and sold to regional recycling "waste banks," while the harvested fertilizer is sold or donated to local garden centers.

Strategic Objectives

Pollution Mitigation: To divert approximately 1,500kg of waste from the environment over a two-month period, preventing toxic leachate and plastics from entering local streams.

Flood Prevention: By removing debris from natural water passages, the project reduces the risk of life-threatening flash floods in Quarter 1.

Climate Action: The project aims to eliminate black carbon and methane emissions by stopping the open-air burning of mixed waste and the dumping of rotting organic matter.

Financial Sustainability: Revenue from the sale of fertilizer and recyclables is reinvested into a "Community Green Fund" to cover ongoing operational costs, such as Bokashi bran and maintenance.

Implementation Structure
Duration: The project is executed as an 8-week pilot.

Beneficiaries: The initial phase directly engages 15 households in the Mile 2 area.

Training: Participants undergo "Waste Literacy" workshops to learn proper source segregation and the technical operation of fermentation systems.
